This outfit of the week is dedicated to the fact that autumn feels like it might come early this year. When temperatures start to drop, I get the itch to reach for scarves and boots. But it still ends up being just a touch too warm for jeans and sweaters. What to do?

Remember how we all used to make fun of those girls running around in Ugg boots and shorts? Well, it turns out that they were on to something. Most of your body heat leaves through your extremities; your head and your feet primarily. So keeping your feet encased and adding a scarf or a hat will keep you warm enough for autumn weather, without needing to layer up in long johns. 

This side-ruched sleeveless dress from Express is an ideal base for an outfit like this. I love it with the stretch suede over-the-knee boots that have been popular the last few seasons, and that’s in keeping with our theme of keeping feet and ankles warm. 

I tend to steer away from prints on core outfit pieces in my own closet. I find them difficult to wear on repeat. So I add pattern and texture with scarves in the cooler months.
