This outfit of the week is all about styling the lug sole boot. Functional footwear made fashionable, the lug sole is traditionally used for comfort and traction. This season, my ride-or-die Stuart Weitzman dropped a line of boots incorporating the lug sole that inspired this outfit of the week.

This pair is called the Kolbie. I chose it because it’s a flat-heeled boot, but if you prefer something more along the lines of a heeled Chelsea boot you might check out the Wenda instead. For something more feminine-leaning, try the Ivey. It incorporates the feminine touch of pearl-inspired detail. All styles boast leather materials and classic, reliable SW quality.

Styling the lug sole boot is about contrast. Dresses, cropped pants, and skirts that used to pair with ballet flats and delicate heels are getting a rocker makeover with the chunkier look of the lug sole. Try rolling skinny jeans to a cuffed length or bunching boot cut denim at the ankle.  

Here I’ve paired the Kolbie boot with a TOPSHOP sweater dress from Nordstrom. Feel free to let this hang naturally, or cinch it at the waist by adding a belt like this one by ALLSAINTS. I like a wide belt in a style like this so it doesn’t get overwhelmed by the sweater. The double prong design on this one complements the lace-up detailing on the boots. 

Accessorize this look with a clutch like this one by Tory Burch. It’s a great size for a clutch, and at under $300 it’s not in the stratosphere of designer handbag prices. Avoid bags with cross-body straps or long shoulder straps that will detract from the belt.
